NIKKI & CHRIS · A NOVEMBER TWILIGHT WEDDING
Grange Barn wedding photography.
Autumn light in the fields, vows beneath warm bulbs and a barn full of people they love. Nikki and Chris’s twilight wedding showed just how beautiful Grange Barn can be, from getting ready in the Loft to the last photographs after dark.

A proper country barn. A very warm welcome.
Grange Barn is a family-run wedding venue in Marbury, Cheshire, close to the Shropshire border. The timber, the surrounding fields and that big open reception room give it a country character I loved straight away. It feels relaxed and welcoming, with plenty of room for a wedding to be completely your own.
The venue hosts one wedding a week, with three-day exclusive use. There’s time to settle in, make the space yours and enjoy the setting around the day itself. Inside, the windows bring in the countryside; as evening falls, the warm lights give the barn a different kind of beauty.

The morning, tucked away in the Loft.
The Loft gave Nikki and her bridesmaids their own space to get ready, just a short walk from the barn. Timber beams, her dress hanging up, bouquets waiting and plenty of laughter: it’s a lovely beginning to the story, with the wedding close by.
Nikki’s Enzoani gown, from The Harrogate Wedding Lounge, deserved a little time of its own. We made a few portraits once she was ready, then let the morning carry on around us.

A little daylight before the candles.
Nikki and Chris chose a 4pm ceremony in November. We planned their reveal and main portraits earlier in the day, while there was still daylight to enjoy. Afterwards, Nikki could return to the Loft before the guests arrived.
That small decision gave them both sides of Grange Barn: the autumn countryside and open air, then the intimacy of a twilight ceremony. If you’re planning a winter wedding or a later ceremony, we can talk through what matters to you and build the photographs around the light.

All those little choices, coming together.
White flowers, candles, timber tables and the “You Had Me at Hello” sign sat beautifully against the barn. The large windows kept the room connected to the fields outside, while the bulbs and fairy lights brought warmth overhead.

Then the room became their ceremony.
By the time Nikki and Chris said their vows, the barn had that close, candlelit feeling they’d wanted. Warm bulbs above them, their guests gathered around, and so much on their faces. The kiss, the walk back down the aisle and the confetti afterwards all belong in the story.

Candlelight and warm hanging bulbs make a beautiful, atmospheric setting for your vows. Photographing that feeling takes care, so if you’re planning a ceremony in a room like this, I’d recommend choosing a photographer or filmmaker who understands lighting and is comfortable working in low light.
In the photographs above, I used carefully placed lights to capture Nikki and Chris beautifully while keeping the barn’s rustic warmth. The candlelit portrait below follows the same idea: give the couple the light they need, and let the room keep its glow.
Letting the barn keep its glow.
One of my favourite photographs from this wedding is the two of them in the aisle, surrounded by candles and those warm hanging bulbs. The atmosphere is part of what makes Grange Barn special. I wanted the photograph to hold onto it.
A little carefully placed light brought Nikki and Chris into the photograph, while the candles and hanging bulbs kept the warmth and atmosphere of the room around them.

The little people are what make it yours.
Between the big moments, there are the small ones: a cuddle, a little hand to hold, people finding their way around the room together. These matter just as much to me as the portraits. A beautiful barn gives the day a setting; the people give the photographs their meaning.

Sparklers outside. A party inside.
As the evening settled in, everyone gathered outside with sparklers. Then it was back into the barn for the first dance, beneath the fairy lights, with their friends and family close by.

And then, completely themselves.
I love the change of pace in a wedding gallery. The candlelit portraits can sit alongside the laughter, the dance floor and a pair of heart-shaped sunglasses. There’s room for all of it.

One last photograph of the place.
Before the story ends, a little time outside. Grange Barn glowing in the dark, the festoon lights reflected in front of us, and the two of them together in the doorway. A different view of the same beautiful setting.

Venue teams often ask why I’m still there after the first dance. I like to stay for the dance-floor moments, and if you fancy something creative after dark, we can sneak away for ten minutes with my lights. The aim is a photograph that feels special to you, with a fresh view of the place you chose.
A team who made it feel easy.
I loved working with Marcy and the Grange Barn team at Nikki and Chris’s wedding. Marcy was calm, friendly and helpful throughout, and that made such a difference to the feel of the day. When the couple, the venue team and the suppliers work comfortably together, there’s more room to enjoy everything happening around you.
